What is Children’s Liturgy of the Word?
We offer Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 8:00 am and 10:00 am Sunday Masses. This program is open to all children ages 3 years through third grade. After the Opening Prayer children are invited up for a blessing and dismissed to a designated area to participate in the Liturgy of the Word on an age-appropriate level. The children will then return to Mass during the Offertory to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with their families. Parents are welcome to attend with their children. Sometimes children need to have the comfort of a parent for the first few times.
No registration fee or form is required. Children are welcome to participate at any time.
What Occurs During Children’s Liturgy of the Word?
The goal of Children’s Liturgy is to introduce children to both the structure of liturgical worship and the experience of worship, so they grow in understanding and love of God. The Gospel readings are presented to the children at an age-appropriate level, along with an interactive message that is relevant to the lives and experiences of young children. As a parent, you can ask your child what he/she talked about or listened to at children’s liturgy.
Volunteers: All volunteers are cleared through the Diocese Safe Environment Program. This includes training, background checks and references. Volunteers can lead or help supervise the children during this program. If you would like to volunteer to help with this program, Please contact Denise Gilbert at dgilbert@eseton.org or 972-398-5406
