What is Children’s Liturgy of the Word?
We offer Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 8:00 am and 10:00 am Sunday Masses and is open to all children ages 3 years through third grade. After the Introductory Rite, the children are invited forward after the Opening Prayer and dismissed to a designated area to worship. The children will then return to Mass during the Offertory to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Parents are welcome to attend with their children. Sometimes children need to have the comfort of a parent for the first few times.
No registration fee or form is required. Children are welcome to participate at any time.
What Occurs During Children’s Liturgy of the Word?
The goal of Children’s Liturgy is to introduce children to both the structure of liturgical worship and the experience of worship, so they grow in understanding and love of God. The Gospel readings are presented to the children at an age-appropriate level, along with an interactive message that is relevant to the lives and experiences of young children. A Children’s Bulletin will be distributed at the end of the session as a take home activity. As a parent, you can ask your child what he/she talked about or listened to at children’s liturgy, using the handout as an aid.
