The Seton Columbarium
and Memory Garden

In times of sorrow and loss, families and loved ones gather to remember not only the one whom they have lost but recall others who have died as well.  The hope of the resurrection of our bodies and eternal life where “Every tear will be wiped away from our eyes” is a promise that Christ has made to those who are faithful and have persevered.  From the time of the early Christians, the faithful have always desired to be buried close to the Church, the house of God, so they may not only be united spiritually in prayer, but also united physically in proximity. 

In that same spirit, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Columbarium has desired to keep the God’s family closely together and never forgotten.  A columbarium is a sacred resting place for cremated remains, having the same dignity as a cemetery; not eschewing the dignity of the body and our final resurrection, but acknowledging that “We are dust and to dust we shall return.” (Genesis 3:19) You may see the “Seton Cross”, a Celtic cross design in many places in our columbarium as a sign of the constant prayers and support from the Church community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. 

The Main Columbarium  space was designed as a place to evoke an awareness of resurrection and hope, however, recognizing those who are in deep mourning, the Mourning Garden, a place tucked away along the south wall – is where one may seek to ask our loving Father for consolation as they grieve.

It is our hope  that our columbarium may offer a fitting resting place for our loved ones in the faith.  The garden is indeed rich with Christian images and symbols which help us approach that which we at times struggle to grasp; to bring faith for those who despair, peace to those who worry, and comfort for those who mourn.
