Together We Learn series - presented "Sola Scriptura vs, Scripture and Tradition" with John Eldridge (via Zoom) on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 10:00-11:30am. Watch this recording and explore the difference... Protestants claim the Bible is the only rule of faith, meaning that it contains all of the material one needs for theology and that this material is sufficiently clear that one does not need apostolic tradition or the Church’s magisterium (teaching authority) to help one understand it. In the Protestant view, the whole of Christian truth is found within the Bible’s pages. Anything extraneous to the Bible is simply non-authoritative, unnecessary, or wrong. Catholics, on the other hand, recognize that the true “rule of faith”—as expressed in the Bible itself—is Scripture plus apostolic tradition, as manifested in the living teaching authority of the Catholic Church, to which were entrusted the oral teachings of Jesus and the apostles, along with the authority to interpret Scripture correctly.

A little about your presenter, John Eldridge: John’s passion is teaching and speaking about the Catholic faith. His specialty is apologetics: helping people to answer questions and address objections. He has been involved in this ministry since 2012, and has been presenting at DCYC since 2016.
He and his wife of 30 years, Neriette, have been parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish since 2006.
John has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University, and is working on his master’s degree in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville Ohio.
Our Catholic faith tradition is FULL of rituals and symbols!
Ever wonder why or what we do during Mass means?... where did that come from?
Join the Shepherd of the Dallas Diocese, Bishop Edward Burns, as he Walks through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass - offering explanations of all aspects of the Mass: from what the priests and deacons wear, to the scriptural references from which the Mass was formed.
The Bishop used two Masses with which to share. Use the links below to watch and learn!

On Nov. 21, 2020 we had a Together We LEARN series session with John Eldridge - "Science & Catholicism: A Match Made in Heaven"
When people say, “science contradicts faith,” they usually define “faith” as “believing without evidence” or “believing in spite of whatever the evidence may say.” Science may contradict that definition of faith, but not the traditional understanding of faith.
